- '''This is a draft'''
-
- '''Lenya Website Redesign Contest'''
-
- '''A special welcome to all interested and skilled in web design!'''
- '''It's good to have you here. It would be great if you would join our
community and provide your expertise to give the Lenya Homepage a shiny new
look.'''
-
-
- Some ideas about the contest were taken from the Solr logo redesign page
(http://wiki.apache.org/solr/LogoContest)
- - thanks to the Solr community for inspiration!
-
-
- == Background ==
-
- At our Lenya Meeting in June 08 in Freiburg we discussed the design of Lenya.
There are several candidates for a new design: The Lenya documentation website
(lenya.apache.org), the Lenya default publication shipped with Lenya and
finally the Lenya authoring UI. As the idea of a contest is new and resources
are limited we decided to start with the design of the Lenya website. The
website currently has a raw design and is of course driven by Lenya.
-
- == Design Goals ==
-
- The Lenya website serves two (possibly more ;-) ) main goals:
- It welcomes new users and informs what Lenya is about. This IMO could be done
shorter and clearer – with a bit more focus on the overal look of the
homepage. Returning users might be interested in a news section – feel free
to add one in your design.
-
- The Lenya website provides documentation for people evaluating Lenya or using
it already. For this part of the website, the most important aspect is the
usability of the documentation: Clarity in structure, text that is easy to read
and print; with well designed semantic elements.
-
- == Redesign Process ==
-
- Feel free to do a redesign the way that suits you best:
-
- '''Either do the design in a design program and provide PNG image(s)'''
- You find the Lenya logo here:
http://svn.apache.org/viewvc/lenya/sandbox/design/docupub-redesign/resources/)
-
- '''Do the redesign directly in css'''
- A ZIP archive of the docu publication is here:
attachment:lenya-docupub-0811.zip
-
- == Technical Requirements ==
-
-  * Minimal screen resolution: 1024 (x 768)
- * Accessiblity: Good contrast, no information provided by colours alone. Use
either a fluid design or one with a fixed screen width.
-
- When you design using Photoshop / Fireworks:
- * Attach your photoshop / fireworks file and exported PNGs from the pages
you redesigned – that helps us with the implementation.
- * If you use pictures, make sure there will be no licence issues.
-
- When you design using CSS:
- * Use web standards and validate your XHTML and CSS.
-  * Compatibility: IE 6 and higher, Firefox 3, Safari 2
-
- == How To Enter ==
- You can attach your screenshots and other design assets to the following
Bugzilla entry: TODO
- You will need to create a new Bugzilla account to do that. With the creation
of a ASF-Bugzilla account you agree to the license terms of the Apache Software
Foundation. Please note that by logging in/creating a Bugzilla account, you
certify that any object code, source code, patch, documentation, etc. that you
may supply to an Apache project can be redistributed under the same
[http://www.apache.org/licenses/LICENSE-2.0 Apache License version 2.0 license
terms and conditions] as
- the project itself.
-
- * Attach images of the redesign, interior page and the homepage + possibly
more pages. Size: 1024 x 768 PNG or JPEG.
- * If you chose to do the redesign by writing css (using the zip-archive of
the docu publication) make screenshots of the result.
- * Optionally attach additional resources (CSS, Photoshop or Fireworks files).
-
- Multiple entries may be submitted by a single person. (Bear in mind: voting
will be for an entry, not the person who submitted them so multiple entries
will compete against each other.)
-
- == Voting ==
-
- The voting will take place on the user mailing list. So please make shure you
subscribe there.
- People involved or interested in the Lenya project have stars they can give
to on ore more entries:
-
- Number of stars to give:
-
-  *10*:  Lenya commiters
-  * 8*:   regular user/dev mailing-list-posters (definition of ml posters as
described by solprovider)
-  * 6*:   persons with an apache.org email
-  * 4*:   everybody else
-
- The entry with the highest number of stars wins the contest.
- Unless: That entry receives more than two vetoes from Lenya committers or
there is a consensus among the committers about a lack of quality of the
entries overall.
-
- == Cancellation ==
- The contest can be cancelled when there are less than 3 entries; or when
there is obvious misuse.
-
- == Time Line ==
-
-  * Deadline for Submissions:
- * Deadline for Community Voting: TBD
- * Deadline for Binding Committer Vote: TBD
-
- These deadlines may be extended as needed.
-
- == Discussion and Questions ==
