I think slating this site is rather pathetic.
I have to admit, in hindsight, that it is a bit. Myself and Colm have had a bit of err, let's say "lively banter" on an Irish web developers mailing list some time ago and it was unprofessional of me to spark that off again. Apologies to both Colm and the list if I seemed a bit harsh in my criticisms.
At least he's trying to give something back. If you don't like it then don't visit it ?
What I was really trying to get across is that if Colm hasn't the time and nobody else is offering to assist, then I think he'd be better off to just use the Yahoo group than bother with a half-hearted site.
I did say that I think the fact that he's putting time into running a user group is commendable, and I honestly do. I just think the site as it stands creates a bad impression and seeing as it doesn't appear to do anything that the already existing Yahoo group can, why not just use the Yahoo group. BTW, I'm not saying there's no point in doing something if you can't do it perfectly first time. I recognise that things grow, but I think the apparent aims of this site would be better served using the Yahoo group until such time as Colm and possibly others develop an improved site.
Or alternatively put something up better that you've spent time doing and wait till someone comes along and rips it apart.
Why? That would be a pointless duplication of effort, just as I believe the the Dublin MMUG site, in it's current state, already is. Note that there is already an Irish CFUG, for which Colm is the Dublin manager (www.cfug.ie). IMHO, contributing to the development of that site, maybe growing it from being just a CFUG to encompass other MM technologies and morph into a MMUG, would be a better use of resources than building a separate Dublin MMUG site. Having said that, there may be "political" issues there that I'm unaware of.
Do some work :-)
I was, hence the delayed response - out of the office yesterday afternoon and this morning.
