Hi Robin,

Its actually getting worse. Initially I thought the problem was of a
conflict between running SQL 2005 developer & SQL2000 Developer.

So I managed to get the SQl2005 working using a named instance, & enabling
TCP ports and made sure that 1433 was not used. This all worked swimmingly.
Armed with my new found knowledge I repeated the same process with SQL2000
and a named instance.

I found I could connect via Enterprise Manager, but not Query Analyser. I
used regedit (as described in your link - have a similar article on MSFT
Knowledge base as well) & the TCP port was correctly set. Server Network
Utility was correctly set & so was the client.

I then wipe my HDD, and restarted the whole process again, but this time
installing a default instance of SQL2000 first, and proceed to do all the
neccessry tests. Again could connect via Ent Manager & Query Analyser, both
utils were correctly set but the logs were still saving SQL was listening on
shared memory & named pipes. Tried opening ports and still the same.

I then re-wiped, started again, turned off firewall and installed a default
instance, then applied SP4 and got the same problem.

Currently I am re-installing ~(again) and going to try with SQl 2000 SP3a.
If this doesn't work ... not sure deep breathing would help :'(.

I am reluctant to install XP PRo sp1, get all this working and then only to
install SP2 and encounter the same problems later.

Cheers,

J

Surely it's not THAT bad ;-)

Have you followed all the steps detailed here:

http://www.websina.com/bugzero/errors/sql-server-connection-error.html

if so, what were the results?

Dear All,

I recently decided to re-install everything on my laptop due some
configuration issues I was happening - and I thought, this would be a
therapeutic exercises.

I keep getting the following error in CFIDE 7

Connection verification failed for data source: blogcfcsql
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error
establishing
socket. Connection refused: connect The root cause was that:
java.sql.SQLException: [Macromedia][SQLServer JDBC Driver]Error
establishing
socket. Connection refused: connect

Based on issues I had had with SQl2005, I figured that SQL2000 & a little
poking around in the log files I've found that SQL Server 2000 is not
listening to TCP/IP on my XPSP2 install. This occurs either by using a
default instance install or a named instance install. With the later, I
have
even been into the registry to ensure that the correct port is has been
set.

Both the client & network utilities show that TCP/IP has been configured
to
listen on port 1433. However, the logs still show that SQL is only
listening
on shared memory or named pipes.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get this ****ing thing to work.
At this rate I might be tempted to sell the dell lappie & buy a Mac!

thanks in advanced,

Jatin
