Aidan, this isn't really a solution, but IIRC, with Word you can add images
to documents two ways. If you go to Insert > Picture > From File, then
choose your .jpg and add it, then the document filesize should be
relatively small. If however you're copying and pasting across
applications, then you end up with a document of several Mb. It sounds
like your documents were made using the second method?
Don't suppose that helps any...

Subject: [ cf-dev ] WOT: Resizing images in Word documents

Please respond to dev
Does anyone have any experience of programmatically adjusting images in Word documents? I need to reduce the file size of about 500 Word docs, all of which have 5 or so images embedded at the original size but only displayed at about 25%. Each one weighs in at somewhere between 4 and 6 Mb, and we need to get that down by much as possible.
Not having used Word in this way before, is it a question of:
looping through the documents images array for each image, determining it's visible dimensions cutting the image from the document resizing it in memory to the visible dimensions pasting it back at the same spot
Sounds like a crazy plan, but might it just work? Anyone got a handle on
where to start?
Thanks, and sorry for the Friday OT.
