Or since it's inline SQL, CreateUUID might work for any other DB.
<cfquery...>
SELECT TOP 5 *
FROM table
ORDER BY 'CreatUUID()'
</cfquery>
Give it a try, it might work.

BTW, I have installed SQL Server 2005 Beta 2, got a bunch of new features.
Now call me an idiot, but my favourite is dynamic TOP(n)!
