Russ said "but it still

Which is incorrect.  You install one FarCry core, but then you have
multiple FarCry applications (sites).  They use the same administrator
code, but their administrators are different.  You have a separate
database per FarCry application (site).  You have to admin each FarCry
application (site) by browsing to http://www.myfarcrysite.com/farcry/.

That is true if you are wanting to upgrade one site and not another.
However, we have found that updating the core doesn't generally break
sites.  In any case we always test on our staging server first.
