Hi all,

To all developers of 1.8.*, here are my plans right now. Please let me
know if they present any technical difficult for you.

Release Type Database changes authorized? ~Release date
1.8.7.1 bugfixes No 15/07/2010
1.8.8 features Yes 15/10/2010

We have been informed of security flaws inside the wiki tool (which are
currently been taken care of) as well as important memory usage that
influence massively the number of Chamilo 1.8 platforms that can be
hosted by quantity of RAM (we pass from 14M to some 200MB by script load
on extreme cases). The last problem is due to uncareful security
filtering and has been solved by joint efforts of Ivan and Julio.

These lead us to plan a 1.8.7.1 release soon.

Now having two different goals (one bugfixes release and one features
release) generally mean we have to prepare two different branches, but
I'm rather opposed to using that method because I think it will create
(still) unnecessary complexity to our developers (and we -BeezNest- are
not in a position, currently, to be making this kind of efforts
internally, nor to teach others how to do them).

As such, I am suggesting we avoid database changes until the release of
1.8.7.1, then we are completely at ease to make the changes before
1.8.8.

Best regards and congrats to the 2.0 team for the beta (I will send the
newsletter tomorrow with the new URL),

Yannick
Leader of development for 1.8 (until someone challenges that :-))
