Yes, Contrail with DPDK supports unmodified guests. However, the pps
performance is similar to what is seen with kernel mode vrouter if the guest
does not use a DPDK application.

Subject: [opencontrail-dev] Performance of DPDK accelerated vRouter

Hello,

I see that OpenContrail supports DPDK accelerated vRouter. Does this support
unmodified guests similar to OVS-DPDK?

In other words, in the case of unmodified guests, an application running on the
VM need not be re-written using the DPDK API to benefit from DPDK acceleration
of the vRouter, though the magnitude of the performance enhancement may be
limited. Am I correct?

I have come across test results with the DPDK accelerated vRouter reported on
the OpenContrail web site which report ~500 pps with the Kernel vRouter, and
~4M pps with a native DPDK application. Is any information available on the
packet processing capacity for unmodified guests using DPDK enhanced vRouter?

Appreciate the information.

Thanks,
Mo
