I have news regarding this issue: It has been determined, that the configure option "--with-curlwrappers" for PHP (which seems to be activated by default in my and others' Gentoo profile) is causing the issue [1]. Disabling the USE flag "curlwrappers" in Gentoo and rebuilding PHP brings RoundCube back to life. How should we proceed now? Patrick.
