Such a font will definitely also better suit retina-screens and other high-density screens.

It's kind of reinventing the wheel. Would it be an idea to add fontawesome as an icon set to roundcube? This would add over 500 icons to the set to choose from and is framework agnostic. We would need a way for plugin authors to add a classname to their tabs/section, but that shouldnt be too hard. I think it wouldnt even be so bad if roundcube itself used fontawesome icons.
