This is also quite OK approach, but I would propose using some other
directory than "gumd" for the location. Since the file would be accessed
also by number of non-gumd applications. So just standardize some
generic location and content.
For user avatar/icon, it could be best to decide a standard location in
the file system where each user's avatar is stored. This would avoid
need to parse any configuration files. User could freely modify his own
avatar, or set one of the system-provided ones in which case it could be
just a symlink.
