I more and more think we can nuke ValuesAttribute completely since its other purpose on ValuesEnum is somewhat obsolete too. It is actually a leftover from earlier days where I was experimenting with using DocEnum to serve CSF too. There it would have made sense though but now we can provide a dedicated API. It still bugs me that Field is so hard to extend. We really need to fix that soon! I think what we should do is extend AbstractField and simply use a long/double/BytesRef and force folks to add another field instance if they want to have it indexed and stored. bq.
