I was just wondering what reduction in FST size you see from packing (when you
can get it to succeed...), i.e. whether it's really worth investing in fixing
packing to handle big FSTs.

Hmm, something else is wrong then ... or was this just an OOME? If not, can
you reproduce the non-OOME when turning on packing despite node count being
well below 2.1B?
