Even the basic auth implementation could be a plugin, just like kerberos and 
others, as per the design. Even if someone has a servlet filter to be used as a 
authentication mechanism, it can be wrapped around into the authentication 
layer as a plugin (since plugins could have servlet filter semantics). I've
