OK, it might have to do with query($qq, DEFAULT)
http://localhost:8983/solr/select?q=*:*&fl=pwid,sum(0,query($qq,5.0))&qq={!lucene}pwid:2
This returns no default:

</doc>
<doc>
<str name="pwid">X9F6L</str>
</doc>
