The comment in the script implies (but does not explicitly state) that
1.9 is OK:

# Make sure 1.8 ant was used to build release bits: (this will match 1.8+)

Trunk has the same definition and the same comment, and also fails with
Ant 1.9.

Although an alternate version of Ant can be utilized by changing
ANT_HOME, similar to JAVA_HOME, I wonder if it would be too much of a
headache to require different versions in trunk and stable.

The 1.9 version has been out for two years, so I think we're going to
have to update eventually.  Switching trunk now might be a good idea, so
it's good and tested by the time we get to 6.0.
