The patch is commitable, with the usual guarantees :)
Do not run this script from an svn working copy or a git working tree, it might
overwrite itself there. Copy it to another place first.
I'm planning to make the script also start a new branch from the earliest
available revision of an svn branch.
The idea is to try this for some svn branches which need their history in git,
see LUCENE-6933.
