I commented on SOLR-9038. Should that issue come to pass, you're right that we
need to differentiate a "backup" from a "snapshot" in our terminology, assuming
we even want these names. As it is, in some of the code I used "snapshotName"
as a nod to the existing snapshooter code using such terminology.
