Hi Sanne,
I think we can work on making Lucene 5.5 aware of the new unmapping, but I
would wait until shortly before Java 9 is released. The current state is
changing too much, so if we release a bugfix 5.5 release it would for sure not
be the last. The same would apply for Lucene 5.3.x, although I am not sure if
we would ever release a bugfix for that one. What prevents you from upgrading
to at least 5.5? FYI, Lucene 5 would possibly work with Java 9, it just cannot
unmap.
