When Otis resolved this old issue, a watcher was sent notification, and the watcher’s postmaster auto-replied via email that the message couldn’t be delivered. This auto-reply triggered yet another email to the watcher, and a vicious cycle began. (This same situation happened on SOLR-8029 ten days ago.)
The strategy I took on SOLR-8029 was to first delete the watcher that triggered the cascade, then delete the auto-posts. I tried that here, but the number of posts in flight grew to a couple hundred, and there is no way I know of to bulk delete JIRA comments, so rather than spend literally hours clicking on trash cans, I decided to delete the whole issue.
