Alexandre Rafalovitch commented on SOLR-11694:
----------------------------------------------
I had a look at this.
We are shipping UIMA 2.3.1, which has been released in 2010
The latest version 3.0 (a big redesign) with latest stable version 2.10.x
Most of the examples (OpenCalais, etc) we have in the distribution are dead as
per this and other JIRAs. And between OpenNLP and LTR we probably support a lot
of previously-interesting functionality in other ways.
I think this whole contribution is a dead-end. Maybe we should pull it
completely and save the 6Mb it takes? The connector source code is in the
version repository if somebody wanted to bring it up-to-date, but I don't think
the current state is useful for anybody.

> brought up the fact that IBM has bought Alchemy and keys are no longer
> available to use Solr's UIMA contrib.
> Someone recently made a [similar

> to the Solr Ref Guide page and asking for a patch.
> I know next to nothing about UIMA, but figured it's worth an issue to
> determine what to do here. I think folks are saying it's no longer usable? Or
> maybe only usable by people who already have keys (which will possibly expire
> at some point)?
> Anyone have an idea what needs to be done here? It seems we should have some
> kind of answer, but if it's no longer usable perhaps we should retire the
> contrib.
