We definitely want the search to be public for all, but we'd like to avoid
building and maintaining a server-side application to serve the search result
page.
My recommendation is to pursue the in-browser JS search options mentioned. Then
search follows each guide. With a hosted index we'd need to maintain separate
indices for each released Solr version as well.
