Tomoko Uchida created LUCENE-8771:
-------------------------------------

Summary: Support non-FS based directory implementation such as
Solr's HDFSDirectory
                 Key: LUCENE-8771
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/LUCENE-8771
             Project: Lucene - Core
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: modules/luke
            Reporter: Tomoko Uchida

This is a migrated issue from previous Luke repository on GitHub:

I have dropped the feature to support Solr's HDFSDirectory when porting Luke UI
from Thinlet to JavaFX/Swing to drop the dependencies on Solr and Hadoop. I'm
not sure how many people rely on this Thinlet Luke feature, but would it be
possible to "inject" or "plugin" custom non-FS based directories when opening
directory or starting up Luke?

For now I have not yet deeply studied how to implement, just wanted to hook the
issue here.
