DateField parsing/formatting issues of years prior to 0001

there are currently issues with parsing/formatting dates prior to "Year 1".
these issues also etende to the fact that the xmlschema spec for "canonical"
dateTime values seems to actually be contradictory as to how to interpret
negative years, and wether there is a "year 0"
