here is a new patch that signals when we try to reopen a searcher that is
already closed ie. has a gen == Long.MAX. I am going to commit this one soon.
This doesn't fix the hanging problem with is actually a bigger problem than I
thought in the beginning. I try to isolate a testcase and explain it in a
minute.
