One thing to watch out for (it got me and someone else new recently) is that
the 3.x code line needs to be compiled/tested under Java 1.5, not Java 1.6.

I think my first check-in used a 1.6 feature and...er...broke the
build. Uwe kindly
fixed it up for me, so I'm trying to return the favor by keeping him from having
to do it again <G>....
