I like the HTML mails, much better readable (on Outlook). But nevertheless, I cannot change the schema, too. And from my knowledge of my own JIRA installation, the default selection of HTML/TEXT can only be done globally for the whole JIRA instance and is unrelated to the scheme. The notification schema does not do this.
