My schema.xml has:
<fieldType name="currency" class="solr.CurrencyField" sortMissingLast="true"
precisionStep="8" currencyConfig="currency.xml" defaultCurrency="RUR" />
...
<field name="price_r" type="currency" indexed="true" stored="true" />
However, the record without specifying a price_r, if you sort appear in the
list.
