I'm thinking that more and more users will move to solrcloud and the conf dir
is not even required for cloud. As you suggested, the solr conf can live at the
instanceDir wherever it is configured in the solr.solr.home attribute . but the
rest can be same
Solr shold startup an embedded jetty and manage the lifecycle completely.
Or, alternately
I suggest that we move to something like netty for http and gain the
performance benefits also and we probably will be able to offer async request
like elastic provides
