I've been reading your latest comments about the problems with versioning and a production release and think I have an idea to solve this problem. What if we use the Lucene version as is and then add an extra number to the end to signal the current iteration of the version? That way you still have the consistency of matching the Lucene Java version and .Net version but can still make improvements like bug fixes that weren't caught in a preview/beta phase. (See this image for an example)  We also have to remember that no one can be sure that they have bug-free software and that unforeseen problems do come up no matter how long we work on something. So I think it would be better to use iterations instead of neverending beta releases like there have been for a while now with the current 4.8.0 release. This also gives a better signal of when you can use Lucene in production as has been mentioned time and time again that many people do even though it's in beta. -- This is an automated message from the Apache Git Service.
