All,

I am an Apache Member, but I am writing the first part of this email with my
VMware Chief Open Source Officer hat firmly on.

First, I would like to apologize on behalf of VMware for how this played out.
VMware takes its reputation within open source communities very seriously. An
email to call a vote to move the project to the attic from an individual that
is neither a committer or PMC member in this community was wholly inappropriate
and did not live up to the standards that we expect from our team members.

At this point, VMware will continue to support our employees that are part of
this community. We will work with those members of our team to help them be
open and transparent about the community’s health, and to try to improve the
diversity of the PMC.

Switching to my Apache Member hat:

This vote is just simply *not* valid. No discussion occurred on list around the
project’s health, and this was done much too quickly for it to be considered to
represent the community’s consensus.

My advice to the community is to begin to have a discussion around the health
of this project in an open and transparent way. Users that are interested
should consider getting involved, and committers / PMC members should encourage
others to contribute.
