I think it's a great effort. Looks like you had to copy in a number of Hadoop
classes and still are facing some problems. It may be a hard road to go down.
We're "officially" on 0.20.203.0 at the moment, and in my mind, the essence of
this issue is seeing if there's any way to use the .mapreduce. rather than
deprecated .mapred. APIs in 0.20.x at least, or, reuse more of AbstractJob for
consistency (improving it as needed).
Do you see any scope for those types of changes? If the informed opinion is
just that this isn't going to be meaningfully possible, I say close this issue.
