clone() can return what it likes, though it is intended to return an object of
the same class. So it *could* do what you describe "legally", even if it
generally doesn't or perhaps shouldn't. What's the flaw that Lance was alluding
to? I am aware of sins in implementation of clone() but nothing that was
actually causing a problem.
