That scenario is standard for SOHO land.

And will remain so until somebody can come up with tools that will
auto magically convert years, if not decades of accumulated data to
OOo format, with zero errors.

Tools that can convert everything from GEM 1.0 thru MSO 2004.

And then the SOHO has to deal with tools that were designed to work
with specific Microsoft products.  And only those products.

Think vertical market here.  Vertical market with tightly integrated packages.
