If you choose "custom installation", you can in fact install only
those modules you want.
What you can not do is download only selected modules; you have
to download the whole package. But you don't actually have to
install all of it.
However, those people who think they are going to save disk space
by doing this will be disappointed, because the vast majority of
the code (I forget what percent, but it's large) is the same for
all modules.
