Revisiting the coupon / voucher idea here.
Thursday 23 Nov or Friday 24 Nov might be a good lauch date if we do a
coupon or voucher for those waiting for MSO 2007 giving them a "free
download" of OOo. Those days are part of the US Thanksgiving holiday and
that Friday is when many start to think more about holiday/end of year
purchases and even any significant purchases for the beginning of next
year. Saving a few hundred dollars might be an attractive option. During
the holidays they'll have time, maybe, to try out OOo, since they won't be
fiddling with MSO 2007 until next year.
Coupon size is about 1/8 of a page. So what kind of information can we or
should we put in a 1/8th page (A4 or US Letter), targeted to people
thinking about MSO 2007 ?
Simple is better, so only a few phrases and maybe a few bullet points and
a logo plus URL might do. What needs to be communicated to pique the
interest of that audience?

PS Just for entertainment I requested a rate card for a very widely
distributed coupon book at my alama mater. I don't expect that we're
likely to want to or be able to cough up money for publication in one
town, let alone several towns, however key they might be. But just for
comparison, it was $620 for a distribution of 35,000.
PPS Having OOo, Friends of OOo, OOo authors, etc. become a 'day sponsor'
of an NPR station or program would reach a lot of receptive people. But
that's not a serious suggestion since it costs money and advertising ==
high burn rate.
