All, The big annual Free Software and Open Source Symposium will be held this October 28-29 in Toronto.[0] Hosted by Seneca College, a leader in teaching open source to college students, this year's would mark the 6th or so event, and each is larger and draws more international and Canadia developers, contributors, interested parties working in nearly all fields touched by Foss.
Last year, there was an important focus on accessibility, and a miniconference held more or less concurrently on open source and accessibility proved very productive. This year, I want a focus on OOo (it's our tenth year, let's go for it) and ODF. We can make this happen by submitting strong proposals and arranging panels. I'm also working with the organizers at Seneca College to see what can be done to establish an OOo focus. And the timing is right: Provinces and municipalities here up in Canada are seriously considering the ODF and OOo (and its variants). Edmonton is but the latest and so far most public about its consideration. Finally, ODF 1.2 will be likely approved by the Oasis TC this summer. So now we'll have post-1.2 to look at, and I would think that we can use this event--Fsoss--as one of a series of sounding boards for that.
