If an artifact is not available in the remote repo(s), but is available in the local repo, and downloaded from there, maven tells you so. It's perfectly normal for some artifacts to only be availble locally, say if you created them yourself and did an install.

Why should maven draw attention to the fact that it's coming from the local repo? This is somewhat annoying, especially when you use snapshots, since the snapshot will attempt to be downloaded every single time you do anything with maven. So if your snapshots are only in the local repo, you will get a message for every snapshot artifact saying it is only in the local repo.

I am willing to create a patch to remove this message, if other people agree that the message is undesireable.

(As an aside, it would probably be good to enhance maven to support a command-line option or property which shows where and how artifacts are searched for and downloaded, to be able to resolve problem situations.)
