I need to read thru this thread fully and write up a longer response - but we've been using the tiles plugin ( which myself and Richard Vowles took over ) to provide mixin like behaviour to Maven and despite a few minor teething issues, it works wonderfully. The win - composition and reuse. The simple static inheritance chain doesn't really provide that.
