Take a look at the maven.mdo file, figure out what you would like and it can be added shortly after 1.0 and I will backport the use of the model into 1.x. You might want to encapsulate anything to do with distribution in to a <distribution/> element much like we have done in the v4 POM for <issueManagement/> and <ciManagement/>.
