I get the reasoning: that can be a reason to do so.
But if we go that route, Doxia should become a separate TLP: too much IMHO

I did the merge, and I'm finalizing the work: not critical simplification, but 
small simplification, as there are only 3 components, that does not deserve 
specific handling
I prefer us to focus on maintaining 1 Maven site = 1 maven-site + a lot of 
components releases
And make reasonable discussions about how to improve that huge site: removing 
that Doxia edge case permits less mental load. For now, I don't see such 
reasonable discussion happen
