The only thing I can tell you is that a plugin can fork a new lifecycle and it seems to be what you are trying to do. But I don't really know how it's work, some developpers might help you here. Take a look at the section Forking a Parallel Lifecycle in this document http://maven.apache.org/guides/introduction/introduction-to-the-lifecycle.html.
