Thanks. The documentation at http://maven.apache.org/maven-settings/settings.html#class_mirror needs updating to indicate that * is valid for mirrorOf. I have been watching the Archiva mailing list but I wasn't aware of whether repository separation had been achieved. With maven-proxy all the repositories are aggregated which means I have had to separate released and snapshots into two proxies or else the snapshots become available when you don't want them.
