Now that maven-release-plugin-2.0-beta-6 has gone out is it possible to get this patch applied or at least discuss it? I have a patched version of 2.0-beta-6 in house that has been making use of the extra release phase without any problems and it seem like a good addition to the plugin's behaviour.
