This is probably a good idea, but I'm not sure how easy it's going to be. There is a drastic change in the way Classworlds works and this affects component factories and thus all Ant related things: ant- based plugins and the ant-run plugin. We could attempt it and put out some candidates out very early to see if there are any problems as the testing of Ant related goodies is a little weak. I also know of a couple backward compat problems with signatures of component discoverers which will cause a problem but as soon as you switch containers and try to build you would find them.
We can attempt it, and you'll know soon enough if it's feasible. I agree that it would be nice to do and would smooth the transition to 2.1 it's just a matter of getting enough feedback and adding some better Ant-related tests.
