I revised the patch and created a patch and a zip file. svn is akward. I believe the vote is on; I'm not -1'ing the current vote because it's mostly cosmetic, limited to a specific set of versions and a specific provider. 2.5 will not be forced onto most users anyway. Given a reasonably quick 2.5.1 any of the workarounds described in the jira issue will work.
There /will/ be people asking about this fairly quickly. I am unsure of how much noise such an issue will create as long as it's clearly mentioned in the release notes.
