I have just committed a fix for MSITE-533, I haven't documented it yet as I would appreciate some review and feedback first. The main change (as illustrated by the change in the goals of the it for MSITE-304) is that SiteStageMojo now extends SiteDeployMojo (instead of SiteMojo), which means that site:stage (and site:stage-deploy) now assumes that the site has been generated before. It works fine for me and it does what I always thought site:stage(-deploy) should do. However I have read through some of the old issues and the fix seems just a bit too simple to be the final solution, so maybe someone more knowledgable about the history of the plugin will tell me that I'm missing something.
