Is there a release note somewhere ? As aether is an important part of Maven I think it is important to add a link (or even more to include) the release note(s) related to such upgrade We already had the issue in the past with external components (plexus ...) but it is more important for aether I think. There were already some issues reported by users in the ML about 3.1.0 and it is difficult (to not say impossible) for them to make the link between maven and aether changes.
