Kasper Sørensen commented on METAMODEL-93:
------------------------------------------

I agree very much. Wondering if we can somehow make it so that it is compatible
with all/many versions of HBase. For example by not including the dependency
ourselves (set scope=provided) but at the same time ensure that our code is
compatible to multiple versions of the dependency. Not quite sure how to do
that in practice, but it must have been done before I assume ...

I know that Pentaho use something called "hadoop shims" for keeping compatible
with multiple versions of Hadoop/MapReduce ... Not sure if something similar
exist for HBase.

> Current hbase-client dependency version in HBase module is 0.95.1-hadoop1. We
> should consider upgrading our depedency to support Hadoop 2.
> I tried to connect to HBase in Cloudera's Quickstart VM with CDH 5.1.0 from
> MetaModel, but it is using HBase 0.98.1 (Hadoop 2). I guess, many people
> start with this popular distribution for a proof of concept, so ensuring that
> MetaModel can connect to HBase on Hadoop 2 is important.
