I am in support of this as well,

We have substantial work to do to get metron off of the HDP version it is
on, which I think is the minimal work to keep it viable.  We do not however
have the people to finish the work that was started.

Jon Zeolla and myself will be forking the metron-bro-kafka-plugin out, as
it _has_ continued to be active.
